Case Study

Oil and Ad-Blue Storage Tanks

A client in the North East of England was contracted to fabricate and supply a number of large above ground storage tanks for an automotive manufacturer.  Durham Engineering were contracted to provide the design for these tanks.

Design of these tanks was a particular challenge due to the relative height to diameter aspect ratio and the fact that they were required to be set on legs rather than utilising more traditional skirt design.

The integration of the legs into the design, specifically the interfacing joint between the legs and the shell was a particular issue.  However, with Durham Engineering's extensive knowledge of the available design codes and experience in utilising first principles, we were able to deliver a design that met all relevant design standards and design stress limitations.
